School Executive

The Principal is supported in the day to day running of the school by the Heads of School. Together, they comprise the School Executive, with a shared passion for education and growing The Anglican School Googong.

Ms Tanya Stevenson – Head of Junior School

Tanya is well known and respected across all levels of the ACT Educational sector and brings a wealth of expertise and proven success, to The Anglican School Googong. Before joining TASG, Tanya was the Director of Learning and Teaching and Student Care and Operations at Canberra Grammar School, where she provided pedagogical, pastoral and professional leadership to both early childhood campuses and the Canberra Grammar Junior School. Previous to this she held the role of founding Director of the Radford ELC and was then appointed to the role of Deputy Head during the period that Radford’s Junior School was established. Tanya has a particular passion for improving practice and developing teachers, child-centred inquiry-based learning, curriculum differentiation, embedding cultural perspectives and promoting internationalism. Tanya balances her commitment to students and empowering teachers with a love of the outdoors and has extensive experience in this realm.

Tanya is no stranger to Googong. In the school’s planning and very early days, she provided support and guidance for the initial registration process and advice on various policies and procedures. Tanya has watched the school’s growth and development closely, and we are delighted that she now leads our Junior School.

Ms Gillian Hetherington – Head of Senior School

Gillian took up her leadership role at The Anglican School Googong in 2019, from her role as Head of the HSIE Faculty at St Vincent’s College, Potts Point in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, a well-established, high-performing, comprehensive girls’ school, where she was much-loved teacher, leader and colleague. She has considerable experience in leading a large team of staff, co-ordinating a broad range of subjects, and is recognised for leading the development of engaging programs of study, guiding student-centred learning and promoting innovative practice. A life-long learner, Gillian is deeply interested in applying the latest research to her practice as she seeks to empower students as learners and provide the best possible educational experience. Gillian is a keen sportswoman, a travel enthusiast and lover of the outdoors.

With over twenty years in education, built on previous industry experience, Gillian is well equipped to lead our Senior School through its period of development as we extend into the higher years. Teamed with her love of teaching, ability to develop staff, her engagement in current research, IT expertise, proficiency in developing policy and her involvement in numerous NESA registrations, Gillian is well placed as Head of Senior School at The Anglican School Googong.
