The Googong Developers, PEET, in conjunction with Queanbeyan City Council, has completed a Community Plan for Googong. This has identified the community facilities required to meet the needs of residents. Among the facilities to be provided are:
- a multipurpose centre in the town centre, which will include a council shopfront, library and community hall as well as meeting and activity rooms
- an indoor sports and aquatic centre, with two sports courts and a 25-metre eight-lane pool
- two neighbourhood community centres
- a community clubhouse with facilities such as an indoor pool, tennis courts and a gym
- recreational facilities including seven sports fields, ten tennis courts and six netball courts
- five neighbourhood and 13 local parks
- a network of walkways and bike paths
Over time the Googong town centre will become the urban, retail and commercial focal point for the five neighbourhoods. This town centre will be about the same size as Manuka, with a variety of shops, cafés, restaurants, community facilities (including an aquatic and sports centre and a library) and commercial premises.
