Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to The Anglican School Googong where we serve the community and region of Googong, inspiring adventurous minds and compassionate hearts.

I hope you will gain an insight into our learning environment and invite you to come and visit us in person, to experience first-hand the learning experience in our school.

The school places value on community, relationships, versatility and student-centred learning in the Anglican tradition. In our purposeful, contemporary environment, engaged and connected students develop as active thinkers. The school aims to develop inspired contributors for our community.

The Anglican School Googong is the first school in Googong – the township being developed to the south of Queanbeyan. It is co-educational, open entry and a school of the Anglican Dioceses of Canberra Goulburn. We are a Kindergarten to Year 12 School (our first Year 12 class will graduate in 2023) with an on-site Early Learning Centre.

I am proud of our students and staff, and look forward to meeting you and your family as you make this important choice about your child’s future.

Principal

School History

Located in the Googong township, south of Queanbeyan, The Anglican School Googong opened at the beginning of the 2015 school year, with 33 students in classes across Kindergarten to Year 2. Two initial buildings were on the 5.2-hectare site for the opening of the school, Tallaganda and Tinderry (named after local mountain ranges). Tallaganda is the first Junior School building which comprises eight classrooms opening on to a central learning space. Tinderry is the building for the Early Learning Centre.

The Senior School is housed in the third building on the site, constructed along the Gorman Drive and opened for the start of the 2018 school year, with 38 students. This building also accommodates the administration area and the school’s main Reception. The building is aptly named Yumalundi, which is Ngunnawal for welcome. In preparation for the 2019 school year, an additional four classrooms were added to the end of the initial Yumalundi building.

The school will operate from Kindergarten to Year 12 by 2023 with more than 500 students. This growth in the school population required six modular classrooms to be installed at the top of the site, for the 2020 school year. Located at the highest point on the school’s land, these learning spaces are known as Kosciuszko. In 2021 a Science and Technology facility was built in the centre of the site, and is affectionately known as the ‘Hub’, and  includes teaching spaces, a café, tinkering commons, an Amphitheatre and a central meeting area.

The school is located on the land of the Ngunawal people whose land encompasses what is now Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding districts including Googong.

The School Crest

The school’s insignia tells the story of the school’s founding principles and reflects the importance of the educational, spiritual and physical environment of the school. The crest depicts the hills of the local area, the Glossy Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami), a regional but endangered red-tail cockatoo whose habitat the Googong township developers have sought to re-establish, and the She-Oak, the preferred source of food for the cockatoo. The hills represent the local area and the cross speaks of the Christian faith, which is the foundation of our school. The colours of the crest are the School colours with blue representing the sky, green representing the landscape, red representing the cockatoo and teal representing the vegetation, particularly the She-Oak.
