About the Principal
Following a rigorous recruitment and selection process, the Board was delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Clayton Massey as Principal on 10 October 2022.
Dr Massey is a highly regarded educator and experienced Principal, most recently offering his wise and generous leadership as Head of Girton Grammar School, a co-ed P-12 Independent school in Bendigo, Victoria. Under Dr Massey’s leadership, the school established a successful remote learning model that kept students engaged and delivered outstanding VCE results.
Previously, Dr Massey was Principal at Tranby College, a co-ed K-12 college in Baldivis, Western Australia, where he was credited with a turnaround in school culture, financial stability and community engagement. Prior to this appointment, he was Head of Senior School and Deputy Headmaster, Curriculum at Guildford Grammar, one of Perth’s leading schools. He has held a variety of other posts at several other schools in his 35 year teaching career including Aquinas College, Narrogin Agricultural College, Kwinana Senior High School and overseas appointments in Edinburgh and Tranent in Scotland.
He has experience in school reform and renewal programs and has overseen the realisation of multi-million dollar building programs, initiated technology and curriculum projects, and guided organisational quality improvements. His vision is to be a good-hearted and good-humoured, loving, well-intentioned and open-minded educator who can make a real difference to the lives of students and young people. He is an advocate of encouraging and developing capacity in everyone – from students to staff and School community.
Dr Massey holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Western Australia, a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Education from Edith Cowan University, Western Australia. He has presented Doctoral research at Harvard University, the Australian Council for Educational Leadership and Australasian International Boys School Coalition.
Like many of us around the nation, Dr Massey and his wife, Jennifer, along with their much loved rescue cats – Poppy and Kipper – are now ready for a different challenge and are opting to embrace the positives of flexible lifestyle and educational opportunities presented by the pandemic. They have joined our school and parish community with enthusiasm and enjoy experiencing all that Googong and its neighbouring surrounds have to offer.
